The Taliban met with U.S. envoys during a UN-led meeting in Doha, discussing the imprisonment of two American citizens in Afghanistan. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated they seek a prisoner exchange with America, citing Taliban detainees in Guantanamo. The U.S. pressed for the immediate release of its citizens. One American, Ryan Corbett, has been held since August 2022, with concerns raised about his well-being and whereabouts.
