Judge Orders Biden Administration to Resume Permits for Gas Exports
President Biden had paused new natural gas export terminals to assess their effects on the climate, economy and national security. A federal judge disagreed.
A federal judge ordered the Biden administration to resume issuing permits for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities. The pause, initiated in January to assess climate, economic, and national security impacts, faced legal challenge from 16 Republican state attorneys general. They argued the pause hurt states like Louisiana, West Virginia, and Texas, which rely heavily on natural gas production. Judge James D. Cain Jr. sided with the states, citing economic losses.
