Critics of Burkina Faso junta recall days of torture by military after conscription
Rights group have accused the junta in the West African country of kidnapping and conscripting some of its critics; an anaesthesiologist who was relieved from duty after a month of forced service in September is missing since the start of June, the national order of doctors said in a statement
Burkina Faso's military junta has been accused by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch of forcibly conscripting and kidnapping critics like Arouna Loure, an anaesthesiologist critical of government violence. Loure and other activists were abducted, subjected to torture, and forced into military service without clear charges or trials. The junta, under leader Ibrahim Traore, faces allegations of silencing dissent through arbitrary and punitive measures since seizing power in 2022.
