Amid rising Zika virus cases in Maharashtra, Union health ministry issues advisory for states

The Union health ministry issued an advisory to states following reported Zika virus cases in Maharashtra, emphasizing vigilance. States were instructed to monitor Zika virus situations closely, especially for pregnant women due to associated risks like microcephaly. Health facilities in affected areas were directed to screen pregnant women for Zika, monitor fetal growth, and implement mosquito control measures. Appointing nodal officers to enforce guidelines was also mandated to prevent Aedes mosquito breeding.
